Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in the United America. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, she was appointed Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
